💭 Shut out all reason and blindly follow the crowd

It still feels so strange to me to see people intentionally closing their eyes and blindly follow the crowd, regardless of the direction they’re heading.
When you witness large groups repeatedly falling victim to scams like MLMs (Multi-Level Marketing), miracle-maker sects, and similar schemes, it’s truly astonishing.
I’m sure that at some point in their journey they had doubts about the path they were taking, yet instead of bailing out, they doubled down or even risked everything they had. FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) must’ve kicked in so strongly that it overrode any logical thinking.

In a way, I can understand the FOMO, the fear of been alone, the pain of solitude, and the intense need for acceptance.
As social beings, we naturally seek belonging.
Most of the time, it feels better to be wrong with everyone than to be right alone.
But not always.

Let’s not forget that we also possess the ability to think for ourselves and change the course of our lives regardless of what others do.
We are not helpless; we can go against our own nature when we recognize something is going wrong.
It’s always easier to go with the flow and follow the crowd; to get comfortable and let autopilot run our lives.
It’s so simple to just let go, that is, until you realize the waterfall is now just one step ahead!

I used to be deeply concerned about these situations. Perhaps I was suffering from Hero syndrom. I’ve tried many times to talk to people around me, with little to almost no success.
But maybe some lessons can only be learned the hard way and my urge to intervene wasn’t necessary after all.
Sooner or later they’ll learn. Perhaps in this lifetime, or maybe in the next one(if there is such a thing).

Now I’m more chill, telling myself that if they are not listening, life will find a way to teach them.
At the end of the day, all we can do is live our truth and hope others find their way too, whether it’s now or sometime down the road.
